23 May, 2010

Young car insurance policyholders in London are benefiting from a new training centre, which opened this week, funded by the elite motor manufacturer Porsche.

The SKIDZ project in Hillingdon aims to enable hundreds of young people across the borough to develop their passion for vehicle maintenance and safer road use as drivers, riders or pedestrians.

Based at West Drayton Young People’s Centre, demand for the courses is already growing, with more than 120 students expected to enrol this year.

Steve Godfrey, director of the initiative, said: “We are passionate about teaching young people about motor vehicle maintenance and when Porsche approached us with some generous funding, Hillingdon was the obvious choice to develop with the SKIDZ project.”

Top Safety Ratings May Help Reduce Low Car Insurance

The 2010 Volkswagen Passat has earned itself the honor of being named a “Top Safety Pick” in the midsize car class by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Passat procured the title by receiving the highest rating of “Good” in each category and overall in the frontal offset crash tests. The Passat sedan, wagon, and CC models were all included in this rating.

Earning this title should be no surprise given the abundance of safety and insurance features that exist on the Passat. Four wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic stability and traction control work in conjunction with an electronic brake-pressure distribution, a feature that distributes the correct amount of braking power to each tire as needed. Motor insurance holders who are looking to stay safe while on wet roads can now get their hands on a new tyre.
