Allstate Boosts Online Insurance

In an attempt to expand its online home-auto sales, on Wednesday, Allstate Corp. (ALL – Analyst Report) announced the acquisition of Ensurance and Answer Financial from White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd. (WTM – Snapshot Report) for approximately 1.0 billion.

The deal was valued at 700 million along with the tangible book value of the entities acquired at the closing date. The total is broadly summed at 1.0 billion. Subject to regulations, the deal is expected to culminate by the third quarter of 2011. The impact of acquisition on earnings is expected to be break-even by the second full year of ownership and accretive after that.

Esurance sells auto insurance directly to online customers and offers auto insurance quotes through call centers. Read full article…

Home Insurance Increases Hit 46%

Do you live in Dorking? If you do then the likelihood is that you were more than a little unhappy when your home insurance renewal premiums dropped on your door mat this year. A report on home insurance premiums recently revealed that the average rise in Dorking last year was from £119 to £174, or 46%. If there was a lot of crime, claims as a result of flooding or weather damage, or even issues with the housing there then this would be understandable. What if there were no such circumstances for the highest rise in the UK though?

The report looked at 3.4 million quotes for buildings and contents insurance and noted that there had been significant rises all over the UK but none as hefty as Dorking despite a low crime rate and no natural disasters. It
